Follow the label or your doctor's advice. Mefenamic acid is meant for short-term use at the lowest dose that controls pain, and is usually taken with or just after food. For period pain it is usually started when pain or bleeding begins and used for only a few days. Do not use it for longer than advised.

Approved for sale in India. Mefenamic acid on its own is not on the CDSCO list of banned medicines. Some combinations containing it, such as with paracetamol, ranitidine and dicyclomine, are banned, so check the ingredient list on the pack. In November 2023 the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission issued a monitoring alert about DRESS, which was not a ban.
